NV Mionetto Organically Grown Prosecco, Italy - Regularly $15.99
The Prosecco grape is one of the oldest grapes in Italian history and is now becoming extremely popular around the world. Prosecco received its first level of national recognition in 1969 when it was awarded a D.O.C., Denominazione di Origine Controllata, in a small area in the Veneto/Friuli portion of Northern Italy. Then in 2009, after a large number of Prosecco imitations sprung up around the world, stricter controls of zoning and production were put in place. A new prestigious classification of D.O.C.G. (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origins) was awarded to Prosecco. Currently there are only 40 D.O.C.G. wines in Italy! There are many Mionetto Proseccos to choose from and most of you will recognize the brand, but this new bottling which uses organically-grown grapes takes Prosecco to an even higher level. The aromas of delicate elderflowers lead to an explosion of golden apples on the palate. Don't save your sparkling wine for special occasions… They don't in Italy!
2009 I Stefanini Il Selese Soave D.O.C., Italy - Regularly $11.99
Most people know the wine Soave, but don't know much about it. Garganega is one of the most widely planted white grapes in all of Italy, and certainly in the northeastern part of Italy. It is known for its beautifully fragrant aromas and is often blended with a little Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc. The Il Selese Soave is 100% Garganega, making it a clean and light wine…a perfect aperitif. Serve it well chilled and enjoy on its own!
2009 Bonterra Sauvignon Blanc, Lake County/Mendocino County - Regularly $12.99
Crafted from certified organically-grown grapes! Since 1993, all of the grapes used in Bonterra’s wines have been grown using certifi¬ed organic practices, such as composting, cover crops, and biodiversity. This Sauvignon Blanc is a blend from two distinctive, yet complimentary, growing regions. Lake County, north of the San Francisco Bay Area, experiences a 50-degree differential between its daytime and nighttime temperatures which preserves acidity and slows the ripening process. Mendocino County is also north of the San Francisco Bay Area but is noted for its distinctive Pacific Ocean coastline. It is one of California's coolest wine growing regions, deeply influenced by the cool Pacific fog coming in off the coast. These two regions together produce a wine with crisp acidity and flavors of grapefruit, lime zest and grass, finishing clean and zippy.
2007 Clos Du Val Carneros Chardonnay, Napa Valley - Regularly $25.99
French-born winemaker Bernard Portet was sent on a mission in 1970 to find new territory with the potential to produce world-class wines. Napa Valley’s microclimates convinced him to stake a claim on some of the finest hillside land in the cool-climate region of Carneros, purchasing 180 acres in 1973. It wasn't until 1983 that their first Chardonnay was made because their focus had been on Bordeaux varietals, which were continuing to receive world recognition. One of the winery's great achievements was recognition of Wine & Spirits Magazine “Winery of the Year” four times within five years! With the cooler weather in Carneros, the Clos Du Val Chardonnay is known for a wonderful elegance and balance of fruit and oak.
"Smoky pear flavors and lemony acidity rise up from under this wine’s warm blanket of alcohol. The fruit is relatively light for such a rich style. Chill for roast salmon." - 89 points, Wine & Spirits.
