2008 Paso A Paso Verdejo, Spain - Regularly $9.99
Typically, Verdejo is grown in Rueda, northern Spain, but this one is from La Mancha, a region in central Spain which lies just south of Madrid. Less maritime influences and more humid weather in this area lend to a richer, riper style of this normally very crisp white wine. A very versatile food wine that works not only with seafood, but chicken, turkey, grilled foods and even salads. Another great value in the portfolio of the famous Jorge Ordoñez!
"The 2008 Paso a Paso Verdejo is the first Verdejo made in La Mancha. Medium straw-colored, it reveals notes of mineral and fresh lemon. Medium-bodied, crisp, and tasty, this nicely balanced effort has a refreshing finish. It is a very good value considering that most Verdejos from Rueda begin at an average of $14." - 86 points, The Wine Advocate
2009 Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand - Regularly $16.99
Kim Crawford was awarded "Winemaker of the Year" two consecutive years in the 90's and then he and wife Erica opened their own winery in 1996 in a spare room in their home in Auckland. Winning awards for his wines from the start made them realize how quickly this winery was going to grow. So, in 1999 they partnered with Te Awanga Vineyards which enabled them to build a cellar door and tasting room facility in Hawke's Bay. Kim Crawford Wines is now owned completely by the USA based Constellation Brands and represents their NZ division. One thing is certain......the quality of this Sauvignon Blanc hasn't wavered since the original award winning vintage.
"Fragrant and complex, with a refreshing burst of lime, guava, grapefruit and grass flavors. Wet stone, passion fruit and oyster shell accents add interest, with bright acidity highlighting the vivid finish. Another outstanding Sauvignon from a perennial success." - 91 Points, Best Buy, #40 in The Top 100 Wines of the Year, The Wine Spectator - 7 years of ratings in the 90's!!!
Sokol Blosser Evolution NV, Oregon - Regularly $17.99
In 1971, the Sokol Blosser family planted the first of their 87 acres of vines which surrounds the winery in Dundee. This was before the wine industry exploded in Oregon. Today, there are over 300 wineries and more than 13,000 acres of vineyards. Evolution was created 12 years ago when they were having fun blending local varietals. The final blend of Pinot Gris, Müller-Thurgau, White Riesling, Semillon, Muscat Canelli, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, and Sylvaner produced a dry, tropical style wine that has become a huge hit both here and in Europe. It's a great wine with Asian or Mexican food because it holds up well to bold, spicy food. Sokol Blosser always embraced sustainable growing practices and in 2005 they received the USDA organic certification from Oregon Tilth.
2007 Sebastiani Chardonnay, Sonoma - Regularly $12.99
For those who have grown tired of fat, oaky California Chardonnays, this wine is for you. Sebastiani uses a lighter oak regime than in the past which results in an elegant, silky wine. Come back to Sebastiani Chardonnay, you'll love it!
“Fresh floral, honeysuckle and honeydew melon aromas fold over to the palate, where they're focused and full-bodied, ending with a creamy aftertaste. Drink now.”- 88 Points, The Wine Spectator
